WebTips by The WebDominator

Note: Please note that I may create “hyperlinks” for you and then again I may not. One reason being that is a good idea to learn how to use Search Engines. So if you see something of interest, use the “keyword(s)” I have placed there for the item that interests you.

FONTS : If you want to view web pages as the webmasters intended you to view them I strongly suggest that you go to some font sites and download many different styles. Do not forget to also download as many “dingbats” as possible as well. The reason is simple: if you do not have the same fonts on your machine, the font called for will revert to the “default font” which is usually Times New Roman, or to be precise, the font you are currently looking at on this page. Any search engine will take you to where you need to go, but you might start at www.1001Fonts.com .

SEARCH ENGINES : Perhaps the most useful tool that the WorldWideWeb provides and the fastest means by which to find an item. My personal favorite is www.Yahoo.com, but of course there are many, many others to utilize.

CUT AND PASTE : A very simple tool to use when you want something right away. Say you see an item of interest here on this page and I have not made a hyperlink for you to click on; not to fret because all you have to do is Highlight the word(s) by dragging your mouse over them while holding the left click side, then once you have the word or words you want, simply right-click on them and click “copy”. You can then go to a search engine and right click again in the box provided and “paste the word or words there.

POPUP WINDOWS : Perhaps the most aggravating item to come along for the casual surfer, especially when they won’t stop and your task bar becomes overloaded, sometimes causing your pc to crash. You can get rid of them. The best tool I have found is “HistoryKill” (a cut and paste word) , that not only includes a PopupKiller, but also will clean your History from the HistoryBar, clean your cookies if you have gathered a bunch of them and remove much unwanted material from your pc. There are other tools out there so go find the one that suits you best.

COOKIES : Not something you eat but something that gathers information about you and sends it to one or more companies that want to know who you are and what you do on the Internet. It’s none of their business what you do and to block such item, go get “Ad-Aware”, a completely free tool you will grow to love. The main tool itself is to find and remove embedded scripts in your registry that send information back to the originating source and sometimes to others as well. Inside the main tool is the cookie stopper. This is a very small weight item that sits in your task bar (to the right on the bottom) and works silently behind the scenes. Get this and watch those Spams start to slow down and eventually stop.

IP BLOCKER : Your IP (Internet Protocol) is the number of your pc and includes your location and much other information. “IPBlocker” is a tool that will change your IP Address randomly at various moments, doing nothing more than fooling anyone who wants to find you. Some people would say “well I have nothing to hide” and to that I reply “I have nothing I wish to share”. The choice is yours to obtain it or not.

COMPUTER PROBLEMS : Ok you’ve crashed and things look dismal, or a particular function in your computer has stopped working properly and you think you have to take it to the shop to be repaired. Well if you’re rich please do just that; our economy is in need of an infusion right now, but if you’re like the rest of us you have other options and those options are called “Forums”. A forum is a place on the www that will speak directly to a specific problem, no matter what the problem. Think there isn’t a forum for just about everything in the world, guess again my friend, and when it comes to repairing computers, people like myself just love to share our wealth of knowledge and show how superior we are. So go again to your favorite search engine and simply type-in your specific problem and you will find a forum to suit your need(s). Say you just want to install more Ram to speed things up a bit; well there are numerous forums out there specific to your computer that will assist you free of charge. All you need is the time to do the work. Remember to always specify tour Platform and Operating System and if you don’t know what those words mean, do a search on the words to find out. I believe there is even a site called “webopedia” out there which is a dictionary of nothing but computer terms. Again, search for that by cutting and pasting the word “webopedia” and if the exact word isn’t correct, five will get you ten that embedded in a meta tag somewhere is the mispelled version of the word which will still direct you to the proper location.. (I am currently constructing a new site called www.OurTechNet.com that is going to have a host of Forums available. It’s not fully operational now, but will be soon.)

I am closing for now but I will return in a few weeks to add more information you just might find useful. In the meantime please continue viewing ninevoltmag online and be sure to use the DiscussionBoard to keep in touch with friends and/or foes.

Peace Everyone ...hopefully so!
